Food bank demand surged after the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. However, small food donors and food banks do not have efficient logistics to coordinate their efforts, while people unfamiliar with food banks find it confusing to navigate the local resources at times of need. Food Map is our solution to bridge this gap.
Food Map is an information-sharing platform connecting small food banks, food donors and people in need. It contains real-time geographical information on the availability, perishability, type, and quantity of donated food in the city, enabling donors and recipients to match promptly.
Food Map has a farther-reaching impact beyond aiding food distribution. We hope to raise social awareness of the food support network and reduce the stigma associated with the need of using a food bank. Food Map will contribute to building a community of sharing and sustainability.
